Body mass index and blood pressure: a study among high school students

Background: Hypertension and its associated risk factors like overweight obesity begins in childhood but it goes undetected. Revealing any relation between overweight/obesity high blood pressure magnitude will help the policy makers planning implementation of necessary interventions. Objectives were to find a Blood body mass index among school children, estimate prevalence study population population. Methods: A cross sectional students 8th, 9th, 10th standards (n=697) two randomly selected Government High School was conducted. Data collected using semi-structured questionnaire. Anthropometric measurements measured. analyzed SPSS software version 16. Results: Elevated detected 4.7% none participants had hypertension. The 7% 19.8% respectively. positive significant correlation seen BMI systolic (r = 0.171, p=0.001) as well diastolic (r= 0.094, p 0.013). Both elevated BP significantly higher who previous COVID infection, Junk food consumption less physical activity. Conclusions: Prevalence Obesity found be male children. Systolic showed with Body Mass Index irrespective gender. Positive Diastolic males only.
